Medicaid cuts under H.R. 1

School closure plan opposition

Mayor Parker's $7 billion FY2027 budget
Council reported out the FY2027 operating budget with an extra $50 million for the School District, offset by spending cuts. The fight over recurring revenue for schools dominated closing speeches, with the PFT warning 340 position cuts loom without new ongoing money.
Affordable housing at risk at Neighborhood Restoration
Providers testified that HUD's funding shift could put more than 1,200 Philadelphia supportive housing units at risk, forcing hundreds of vulnerable residents back onto the streets. Council formally condemned the cuts and urged HUD to expand PSH investment.

Council created a special investigative committee with subpoena power to examine the April 8 partial collapse of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia parking garage and other city construction projects, aiming at safer construction practices.
